If I lose my job and default in year 4 of a 5-year 'Rent-to-Buy' agreement, does the law protect the $40,000 I’ve already paid, or can the seller legally evict me and keep everything as 'rent'?
Because mortgages are hard to obtain here, I entered a rent-to-buy contract for a house in Ruwa. I paid a $10k deposit and $1,000 a month for 3 years. I recently missed two months' payments. The seller just sent a cancellation notice saying I forfeit all my money as 'rental compensation' and must vacate in 30 days. I’m searching for a lawyer who understands the Consumer Contracts Act to tell me if I can force the seller to refund my equity.
